Portrait of the Land

This residency focused on expanding knowledge of ancestral cooking practices and traditional recipes rooted in the plants of Sicily. Taking place during the olive harvest season, much of the time was dedicated to gathering olives and learning the full process—from raw fruit to the culinary art of pressing some of the region’s finest oils.

Wilder Kitchen collaborated with Sicilian artist Mariapia Mineo and her brand Sicels to create a curated picnic in partnership with local olive producer Valmore. The gathering highlighted local ingredients and artisanal creations, offering participants a sensory experience of Sicilian land and culture.

Portrait of the Land
The residency culminated in Portrait of the Land—a project exploring Sicily through its edible landscapes. This work combined foraging for wild edibles, spending time immersed in nature, and learning recipes directly from local communities. The outcome was an edible table, an installation that wove together drawings, research, poetry, and plants into a living portrait of Sicily’s natural and cultural abundance.
